Sadism is the sexual pleasure or gratification in the infliction of pain and suffering upon another person. The word is derived from the name of the Marquis de Sade, a prolific French philosopher-writer of sadistic novels. The counterpart of sadism is masochism, the sexual pleasure or gratification of having pain or suffering inflicted upon the self, often consisting of sexual fantasies or urges for being beaten, humiliated, bound, tortured, or otherwise made to suffer, either as an enhancement to or a substitute for sexual pleasure. The name is derived from the name of the 19th century author Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, known for his novel Venus in Furs that dealt with highly masochistic themes.

A plastic surgeon in California has lost his license to practice after it was discovered he had been using human fat sucked out of patients’ bodies to fuel his car.
Alan Bittner claimed on a web site that he created lipodiesel from his patients’ fat and used it to power both his Ford Explorer and his girlfriend’s Lincoln Navigator.
Dr Bittner said he has performed roughly 7,000 liposuction operations, and that a gallon of human fat will produce roughly the same quantity of biofuel.
“The vast majority of my patients request that I use their fat for fuel – and I have more fat than I can use,” said Bittner at lipodiesel.com. “Not only do they get to lose their love handles or chubby belly, but they get to take part in saving the Earth.”
Human fat contains triglycerides which are no different from those found in waste animal fats that are already being used for the same purpose.
However the discovery left medical regulators unimpressed. Using human medical waste to power vehicles (or indeed for any other commercial purpose) is largely illegal, and Dr Bittner’s clinic has been raided by California Health Department officials.
Apparently using fat to fuel cars might be environmentally friendly, but it’s illegal in California.Whattty thus can’t be trueeer

I’m so sad I had to miss this.
“Most rappers don’t know diamonds are minerals, that they’re crystalline, and that’s what gives a diamond its shine. They talk about gold and they don’t even know it’s an element.’’ —GZA (aka The Genius)
Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA was in Boston last week to give a lecture at the Harvard Black Men’s Forum. While there he added a three-day tour of MIT to his trip to meet with scientists, professors, and students seeking inspiration for his next album. He spent an hour talking with Norton author David Kaiser (pictured right), author of How the Hippies Saved Physics: Science, Counterculture, and the Quantum Revival. Here’s a few things they discussed:
- Quantum Theory (especially Bell’s Theorem)
- The Nature of Time (in the context of Einstein’s relativity)
- Black Holes, Wormholes, and Possibilities for Time Travel
- Cosmology
Guys, I think the next album could be…out of this world.
